TabletsAntituberculosis drug chemically similar to ethionamide. It has a bacteriostatic effect mostly on growing Mycobacteria tuberculosis (including atypical ones) located both intra- and extracellularly. It inhibits synthesis of mycolic acids, a key component of M. tuberculosis cell wall, and possesses properties of a nicotinic acid antagonist. At high concentrations, it inhibits the synthesis of the microbial cell wall. The secondary resistance to prothionamide emerges quickly.
