TabletsAntituberculosis drug combination. It has bactericidal (by inhibiting synthesis of mycolic acids, a key component of Mycobacterium cell wall) and bacteriostatic (by competing with p-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) and inhibiting folate synthesis in M. tuberculosis) effects. Para-aminosalicylate sodium, the active ingredient, slows down the emergence of isoniazid resistance, inhibits acetylation, and competes with isoniazid for hepatic N-acetyltransferase metabolism, which results in increased blood levels of isonicotinic acid hydrazide.
